Brett Murray

Brett Jennings Murray was born in Toledo, Ohio to parents James Lore Murray (Major General, USAF and Aerospace CEO) from Newton, North Carolina and Phyllis Jennings Murray (Ms. Sumter County and Ms. Georgia contestant) from Plains, Georgia, hometown of President Jimmy Carter. After his Father's retirement in 1983 his family moved to Point Clear, Alabama. Brett was educated at a local prep-school, Bayside Academy and while in the ninth grade shined in his sound and music abilities. He was quickly named head of the sound department for the schools bustling theater program and began mixing for student films, live music and theatrical productions. He was the youngest student in the school's history to be selected for the position. He also had an interested in film and began writing, directing and acting in short action films. Brett was instrumental in assisting Bayside Academy in the launch of the school's first film class, which is still in existence today. In 1992, while in the eleventh grade Brett took a leave from school to work on his first feature film, "Under Siege". While on set he observed veteran Sound Mixer Scott Smith which led to his initial production sound interest. After graduating high-school in 1993 Sound Mixer Whit Norris offered Brett an opportunity to learn sound utility on his upcoming film in Atlanta. This led to Brett's production sound career. In the fall of 1993 he attended the Maine Media Workshops & College. Brett moved to Los Angeles in 1996 and returned to the south in 2003. Brett resides in New Orleans, Louisiana.
