Alice Waddington

Born in Bilbao, in a family with both Hispanic and Spanish heritage and a rural background; to a psychologist and a teacher. Her mother was the first woman in her family to attend university. Alice acquired her stage name at 16 while assisting director of photography Quique López ('Sótano', 'Ander'). Having no initial connections in the film industry, she studied advertising in the Public UPV, and started taking promotion stills and directing fashion films (for the Spanish editions of Harper's Bazaar, Neo2 and others). She worked as an advertising creative, a producer and an advertising video editor at the agencies Leo Burnett Iberia and Social Noise, also specializing as a photo-realistic storyboard artist. In 2014, with the help of Mexican producer Yadira Ávalos, she spent a year writing a short film. Her first narrative 11' 30'' - minute piece, 'Disco Inferno' (2015) obtained nominations in 67 international film festivals including fan favorites such as Palm Springs, Fantasia, Sitges or Fantastic Fest, which first awarded her as Best Director and Silver Feature Film Project of its film market. Twelve other international festival wins ensued. The short film is still touring Japan, China, the US and Canada with several 'Best of the Fest' showcases. Alice's first feature 'Paradise Hills' (2019) was produced by Spanish production company Nostromo Pictures ('Penny Dreadful', 'Buried'). A science-fiction thriller written by Brian DeLeeuw ('Daniel isn't real') and Academy-Award nominated Nacho Vigalondo ('Colossal', 'Timecrimes', 'Extraterrestrial'). Protagonized by Emma Roberts, Awkwafina, Eiza Gonzalez, Danielle Macdonald, Milla Jovovich and Jeremy Irvine. Said feature is the second Spanish debut film to ever be screened at Sundance Film Festival (2019). International genre festivals such as Fantasia, Sitges or Mórbido, followed suit.
